A Feast for the Olfactory Senses

Granada’s Patio of Scents and Discovery

A unique experience awaits visitors at the Patio de los Perfumes along the Darro River, which separates the Alhambra from the Albaicín district. This multi-concept space is at once a store and a museum, a workshop and a laboratory. It is also a historic building with a charming patio worth peeking into.

The story of this special place begins with Christian Pamies and Valérie Sabini, originally from the French region of Grasse, the world’s perfume capital. They are also the reators of Laboratoire HÉVÉA and PATIO – PARFUM DU BIEN, a brand dedicated to high-end perfumery and natural cosmetics. Experts in botany and true lovers of scents, they continuously travel the world in search of new raw materials to study the relationships between plants and humans.

It was almost a decade ago, in 2015, that their new project for a concept store came to life in the heart of Granada. The location was no coincidence, with Granada traditionally being a melting pot of cultures, a place where East meets West. The perfume creators opened Patio de los Perfumes and created a unique store-museum that combines the charm of the past with contemporary elegance, offering a timeless olfactory immersion and experience. This space, located in a Renaissance building on the iconic Carrera del Darro, at the foot of the Alhambra, is a must-visit when strolling through Granada.

For Christian and Valérie, each essence has its own power and expresses the energies of a season. That’s why, with the arrival of autumn, they celebrate Mother Earth and wood with their new 100% natural perfume collection called “Encensé.” They are also hosting an exhibition entitled “The Incense Route, Leo the African.”

Incense was the first perfume in history. The word comes from the Latin “per fumum,” meaning “through smoke.” This precious raw material was traditionally used in religious and spiritual rituals for purification, which connects with the essence of the PATIO brand – a concept that views perfumery as sacred and beneficial art.

The “The Incense Route” exhibition offers an olfactory journey in a serene atmosphere, following the footsteps of Leo the African, a historical figure born in Granada at the end of the 15th century. In the magical spaces of the Patio de los Perfumes, visitors can discover the most precious and authentic essences of the past and present in a unique experience guided by an expert perfumer.

Additionally, for those curious and passionate about genuine sensory experiences, there is the opportunity to participate in an exclusive perfume-making workshop and take home a personalized scent. And what better way to capture the mystique and the charm of Granada than with a scent that will take you back to your unforgettable trip for a long time to come…
